1. Purpose
At Jam Nation, our goal is to connect and build a meaningful community of musicians—worldwide—and deliver to them tools and services to meet, play, develop their careers, and enjoy their music.
These Community Guidelines support this mission by encouraging professional, caring, and thoughtful behavior and content-sharing.
While we warmly encourage you to read our Terms & Conditions, we want to make sure the spirit at the heart of our community is delivered to you in a clear and concise way with these Community Guidelines.
These Guidelines apply to all usage and content on Jam Nation.
2. Etiquette of Playing Together
Music is a shared experience and how to play together and participate to a jam is something that requires learning as much as playing the instrument itself.
The good news is: you are in the right place!
Keep an Updated Profile
Make sure you keep your profile updated—especially the short questionnaire that describes where you are in your music journey—and make sure you regularly go back to check whether your answers accurately describes your current level.
This helps community members to understand your interests and musicianship better, and help us arrange music experiences that will meet everyone’s expectations.
Respect Everyone’s Time
Everyone is doing an effort to find time in their busy agenda to enjoy the experience. Please arrive at the jam on time and try to not cancel—especially at the last minute.
Prepare (this is especially true for focused sessions)
If you host or join a focused sessions, it’s very helpful—for yourself as well as for everyone else participating to the jam—if you set goals for your practice beforehand.
Try to share as much as you can about your expectations with other participants via your jam chat, “I would like to practice 2-5- 1 progressions”, or “I would like to practice comping bossa nova, e.g., rhythms” etc.
Also, preparing for the jam will make your experience both more productive and enjoyable.
Promote Tolerance
We are proud of the efforts we make to match you based on your goals and preferences—e.g., whether you want to spend time with other musicians deeply focused on improving their practice, or just have a good time, or whether or not you are happy to play with musicians less experienced, etc.—having said that, everyone makes mistakes or can have a bad day.
Help and encourage other fellow musicians to learn and improve.
In the event that you believe a fellow member has grossly misjudged his or her own level on the questionnaire, you may politely directly discuss with the fellow musician, or you may let us know (through the app or by writing at care@jam-nation.com) and we will do our best to reach out and discuss the matter with said member—your identity will remain most strictly anonymous.
